Fully Funded Matsumae (MIF) Fellowship in Japan 2024 is open now. The Matsumae International Foundation (MIF) Fellowship 2025 offers a unique opportunity for PhD holders to engage in research activities in Japan within a supportive environment alongside fellow researchers. During the fellowship period, participants have the chance to explore Japan and immerse themselves in its rich culture. The MIF fellowship covers all expenses, including flight tickets, meals, accommodation, and a monthly stipend for living expenses.

Established in 1979 by Dr. Matsumae, the foundation aims to bridge the gap between Japan and other countries by inviting talented researchers to address challenges relevant to their home countries through research. While fellows can conduct research in any field, preference is given to applicants in natural science, engineering, and medicine. Japan, known for its academic excellence, provides an ideal setting for students at any educational level, from undergraduate to graduate programs. The fellowship duration is six months, offering ample time for meaningful research endeavors.

For the 2025 cohort, the Matsumae International Foundation (MIF) plans to select 15 applicants from a pool of candidates. Over the 42 years since its inception, the MIF has extended invitations to Japan to more than 850 researchers hailing from 120 countries and regions across the globe. This initiative underscores the foundation’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and facilitating research exchanges on a global scale. Through this program, the MIF continues to play a significant role in promoting academic and cultural exchange, enriching the research landscape, and nurturing emerging talent in various fields of study.
