However, a local campaign to establish a university in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province began 50 years earlier, in 1967. However, it took 12 years for members of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Parliament to present legislation to the Parliament in 1979 to create a university in the province. Five years later, in 1984, a group of notable Nakhok Si Thammarat residents formed “A Group to Campaign for a University in Nakhon Si Thammarat.”
