PhD Position in Switzerland at Universität Basel 2024 is open now. The University of Basel is seeking two PhD candidates with a keen interest in soil erosion research. The focus of the research will be to investigate the consequences of soil erosion processes on phosphorus dynamics, utilizing modeling and biogeochemical approaches. The project, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF), will target four different catchments on three continents: Delaware River in North America, River Dee and River Rhein in Europe, and the Subcatchment of the Yellow River in China.
These positions offer an opportunity to work closely together within the research group Environmental Geosciences at the Department of Environmental Sciences. The PhD projects will involve soil erosion modeling and exploration of phosphorus export from soils due to erosion, with additional support from a Post-Doc position already filled, which will focus on tracking soil erosion using stable isotope signatures specific to components. The PhD candidates will benefit from co-supervision by project partners in each region.
