Fully Funded PhD Position in Australia at University of Innsbruck 2024 is open now. University of Innsbruck is offering 2 fully funded PhD positions. Candidates from all over the world can apply for this project. Title of project is ENDRUST – Role of endophytes in rust defense in Norway spruce: Phytopathogens and other stress factors are the major causes of economic and ecological losses and adversely affect agriculture and forestry. The European Piceaabies forests in the central Alpine region have been heavily impacted by infections caused by the needle bladder rust pathogen, Chrysomyxarhododendri. This pathogen poses serious threats to mature trees and has fatal consequences for young saplings. The project is financially supported by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and involves collaboration between the University of Innsbruck’s departments of Pharmacognosy, Microbiology, and Botany.
This project aims to uncover how certain fungal endophytes living inside P. abies trees in Tyrol province, Austria, might help these trees resist rust infections.
Successful candidates will get the opportunity to collaborate with experts from the University of Innsbruck. They will receive co-supervision for conducting phylogenetic and microbiological research. Applicants want to pursue their career in field of microbial natural products can avail this opportunity.
The selected candidates will be hired by the Department of Pharmacognosy and will be enrolled in the Pharmaceutical Sciences study program. They will have the responsibility of managing the project, authoring publications and reports. Applicants will also get a chance to actively participate in national and international conferences.
